Hi Friends, Welcome to my Blog! I’m Kristen and I’m a first time mama and I’m also a millennial.
You’re probably wondering why I call myself the millennial mama. It all started when I was trying to decide what to write about. I enjoy so many things it’s hard to just pick one topic. So, I decided to write as a millennial mama growing up in this world. I want to share motherhood tips I’ve learned, the joy of crafting and gardening, making food from scratch, making natural products without harmful chemicals and the hope and dream of someday having a homestead.
As millennials (and Gen. Z and generations after us) becoming an “adult” seems much harder than it did for our parents and grandparents. Working hard and getting almost nothing back, food and other products full of chemicals and the endless corporate greed isn’t cutting it for me anymore. Is it for YOU?! I’m ready to SLOW DOWN and spend more time with my family. I WANT my daughter and I to eat healthy. I NEED to feel closer to nature again.
…AND I want this for you as well! I hope you follow along with me as a 31 year old who is still trying to figure life you and make it better for herself and her daughter.
The Pre-mama days – My inner child never died:
I’m a wildlife biologist, so merely saying I’m “outdoorsy” is an understatement. Even in childhood, I sought to explore the natural world. Without a speck of fear, I chased creeks searching for their end, caught snakes and lizards, inspected insects and spiders under microscopes and so much more. There’s truly no end to my love of the outdoors. I got really luckily finding a job I loved. My work involves studying ecosystems- how wildlife and plants interact with their environment. I’ve even recently dabbled in studying fire and how fire effects ecosystems (and yes, I’ve stood in and around fires to study their movements). I’ve handled all things wild, from tagging birds in northern California, understanding populations of rodents in Canada, walking the jungles of Costa Rica in search of hummingbirds to Cambodia to study bat and rodent diseases. I feel like in a sense I didn’t’ have to grow up and loose that part of myself because that very interest became a career that I love. I’m here to raise my daughter as a wild child like I was, to have interest, curiosity and creativity instilled in her so she can spread her wings and fly!
In my blog you’ll read about my infertility journey, my pregnancy, the mother I am becoming, my obsession with creating natural healthy products for my family and how to live well overall.
I hope my story resonates with you and that my experiences, life lessons and ideas only add to the success of your wonderful lives.
Also, you may have noticed my logo is a butterfly.
Why butterflies resonate with me…
The butterfly is a symbol of rebirth and growth. I chose to create a logo that shows how having my daughter will grow and transform me to become better for her. I feel like a butterfly where I have multiple phases of my life. With each passing phase, I grow to become a better person.
Did you know a group of butterflies is called a kaleidoscope? With over 17,000 butterfly species adapted to survive in each of their unique environments, it goes to show that there is ever changing potential in all of us and all we have to do is embrace it.
So come on this journey and watch me grow up a mama!
